The Fall 2024 issue of Abbey Banner celebrates the solemn profession of Brother Félix Mencias Babian and honors six jubilarians who renewed their vows made fifty, sixty, or seventy years ago.  Brother Aaron Raverty introduces us to nineteenth-century Saint John’s Indian Industrial School while Dr. Brenda Child examines Ojibwe education in the context of federal and state land policies of the time.  Abbot Douglas Mullin acknowledges the significant harm caused by the boarding-school system and outlines the abbey’s commitment to rectifying past wrongs.  Brother Paul Richards reflects on the grace-filled service of the 350 (and counting) Benedictine Volunteers during the past twenty-one years.  Ms. Peggy Roske takes a stroll down memory lane with Ms. Dottie Douvier Lutgen who recalls growing up “praying, playing, learning, and helping” in the shadow of the abbey church in the 1940s.
