Benedictine Daily Prayer: A Short Breviary

Benedictine Daily Prayer: A Short Breviary is published by Liturgical Press. Benedictine Daily Prayer is designed for Benedictine Oblates, Benedictine monastics, and men and women everywhere. It's small enough to fit in a briefcase for travel. Scripture readings are from the New Revised Standard Version Bible.

"Oblates of Saint Benedict who are looking for a more comprehensive form of the Divine Office will find this book fulfilling that desire without being burdensome. An editor who is both an oblate and a liturgist has accomplished this fine work. People other than oblates will also benefit from its use. Years ago the Liturgical Press introduced the laity to the Divine Office with the publication of A Short Breviary. Benedictine Daily Prayer follows in that tradition."

— Brother Benet Tvedten, O.S.B.

The Benedictine Handbook

The Benedictine Handbook is a lifelong companion for Oblates, associates, and friends of the Benedictine communities. Assembled by the monks of Ampleforth Abbey, Yorkshire, the book was published in the United States by Liturgical Press in 2003.

Reaching for God

Reaching for God, by Roberta Werner, OSB, is a compendium of Benedictine life and prayer for the lay person. It brings together in one volume the essence of Benedictine spirituality its history, its relevance through the ages and in the present, and a summary of the most fundamental gifts and values it offers for living a meaningful life. Here, the meaning and purpose of the oblate way of life is explained in a clear and encouraging way. Werner offers guidance and examples of prayer to enrich any spiritual life.  This is our primary text we are using for the formation of our oblate candidates.

Give Us This Day

A perfect resource for oblates seeking a way to pray daily the Liturgy of the Hours and a rich sourse for spiritual reading.  Deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition, Give Us This Day is about prayer-praying daily, praying well, praying with confidence. Give Us This Day supports your desire to establish prayer as a part of your life, enhancing your existing practices and deepening your encounter with God.

Road to Eternal Life

Our oblate chapter groups have used this book as the impetus of personal reflection and group conversation. By reflecting on the Prologue one verse at a time, Michael Casey, OCSO, delves into the richness of meaning that can be found in Benedict's words. These reflections, first given as talks and made available on his community's web site, build a bridge between the sixth-century text and twenty-first-century Christians. In The Road to Eternal Life, Casey invites readers to reflect on the Prologue in light of their own experiences, to seek "the road that leads to salvation."

Rule of Saint Benedict

Benedict's Rule: A Translation and Commentary is the first line-by-line exegesis of the entire Rule of Benedict written originally in English. This full commentary - predominately a literary and historical criticism - is based on and includes a new translation, and is accompanied by essays on Benedict's spiritual doctrine.
