Fr. Don's Daily Reflection - December 17, 2024

Psalm 62: “In you alone is my soul at rest. My help comes from You.”

A friend who liked a previous collection of this type suggested that I might be able to appeal to a larger readership. That is, write a book that would be encouraging and hopeful in, I suppose, a more generic way. I certainly believe that people come to God in other ways than through explicit belief in Jesus Christ. Still, for me as a Christian, the assurance that God cares for us, that life has meaning, all this is inseparable from belief in Christ. The basis for my hope and trust is what God has done through the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.

I know that there are people who are hopeful, positive, able to face whatever life brings without that belief. I don't know whether I could share this natural optimism without the assurance I find in Christ. Possibly Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and others, can read the reflections with profit by seeing Jesus Christ as one great sign to human kind of God's love and care which they see demonstrated in some other way also. I'd be happy if they could do this.

Psalm 27: “I believe I shall see the Lord’s goodness / in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord; be strong; / be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord!”
