Sunday at the Abbey – Dr. Charles Bobertz

Watch Dr. Charles Bobertz’ presentation, “And God Saw that it was Good: The Goodness of Creation and the Persistence of Evil in Biblical Views of Creation.”

Original presentation on October 20, 2019
Abbey Chapterhouse

In a groundbreaking study, Creation and the Persistence of Evil (1988), Jon Levenson contrasted later Jewish and Christian notions of creatio ex nihilo (creation from nothing) with the more ancient biblical idea of creation from chaos. This presentation will explore a few of the theological implications of Levenson’s work, especially in reading and understanding the Gospel of Mark.

Dr. Charles A. Bobertz received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1988. He was ordained to the diaconate for the Diocese of St. Cloud in 1997. Deacon Bobertz is professor of New Testament, Patristics, and Homiletics at Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary. His book entitled, The Gospel of Mark: A Liturgical Reading was published in 2016 by Baker Academic Press.
