Fr. Don's Daily Reflection - December 8, 2024
Psalm 62: “In you alone is my soul at rest. My help comes from You.”
In the back of the church with the ushers at Mass you gain another perspective on participation at worship. Young parents leave the nave with fussing, restless little children; they try to keep them entertained, try to quiet their cries and screams. They will probably not remember the day’s readings or hear most of the homily. They certainly deserve an “A” for effort.
As necessary as worship is and as uplifting and inspiring as it can be, at times our responsibilities to little children or our own worries can make our ideal participation remote. Our anxieties and cares are actually quite a bit like clamorous little children for all of us. Why not present to God the difficulties we're struggling with, fulfilling our responsibilities, our worries and anxiety along with the care of those little children as our worship, the best we can bring to God at that moment?
Psalm 27: “I believe I shall see the Lord’s goodness / in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord; be strong; / be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord!”
