Our Current Scientific Account of Creation: Implications for Human Self-Understanding

yost.jpg

Presented by Dr. Sarah Yost

The scientific examination of the world surrounding us has led to the conclusion that we live in a universe with a "Big Bang" beginning 14 billion years ago. This talk will discuss the scientific approach to understanding the universe's origins, explore the evidence for and development of this cosmology, and explain a personal view of how this can support an understanding of creation.

Dr. Sarah Yost is from Winnipeg, MB, Canada, earning a B.Sc. in physics at University of Manitoba (1996) and a Ph.D. in physics at Caltech (2004), modeling the aftereffects of distant astrophysical explosions called "gamma-ray bursts." She has taught astronomy and physics at CSB/SJU since 2007.
